I have a dream job, and I’m the first to admit it. Each day since I joined CTA Travel in 1986, my work has let me explore the world – vicariously as well as literally. When clients walk through the door for my help, I’m excited that I’m going to give them the experience of a lifetime. When I take my own trips, I’m constantly amazed at the joy and wonder that travel can bring.
I love crafting the perfect honeymoon, a wonderful way for a couple to start a life together. I listen carefully to my clients, making sure they know what they’re getting. They may think they want to go to Tahiti, but if they add that they enjoy evening entertainment, I’ll steer them to a tropical destination where nightlife is more prevalent – Jamaica, perhaps. If they say they want to honeymoon in Hawaii but feel strongly about staying at an all-inclusive resort, I’ll suggest other warm-weather locales where the accommodations better meet their needs.
For years, my daughter Zoë has joined me on junkets to such fun destinations as Disney World, Hawaii, Jamaica, the Caribbean and Mexico. As she gives me her own opinions on the places we stay and the things we do, she provides me with invaluable feedback that I might not have considered from my adult perspective. As a result, I’m a great consultant for families looking to create trips with their loved ones.
My own adventures have taught me how to truly enjoy each place I visit, and that includes learning about its culture and lifestyle. Even if you’ve paid a lot of money for the trip, travel isn’t all about taking; it also involves a healthy respect for your host. As I send my clients to faraway places, I try to share that philosophy with them, encouraging them to meet people who live there, try the local food and take a bus to another part of the city. With so many destinations just waiting to be discovered, travel can enrich your life like nothing else.
