your perfect romantic travel getaway.
My uncle was an airline pilot, and whenever he told me about the faraway places he had visited, his stories made me want to go there myself. From my high school days doing a work-study program at a travel agency up to the present, more than 25 years later, I have known that travel was my calling. When people walk though the door full of promise and excitement, I want to make sure I don’t let them down. From honeymooners to families, I canvas their every need and interest, right down to whether or not they want to answer the phone during their trip (if not, the Cook Islands is a great place to unplug).
My firsthand experiences give me the edge, even though the Internet is growing in popularity as a way to book travel. Clients may have priced a trip online, but since I’ve actually been to specific destinations, I know where to stay, what to do and what not to do – things the computer won’t mention. I take as many educational trips as possible, and I work hard to familiarize myself with each place, staying in a different hotel every night, attending breakfast and dinner seminars and going on site inspections. Even when I’m traveling on my own just for fun, I still take pictures of hotels, gather information and take notes, bringing everything back to share with coworkers. It’s my second nature to absorb all the details.
I enjoy selling Hawaii, which is easy to reach and so exotic while still being part of the U.S. Cruises are fun to talk about, because they provide lots of inclusives and offer as much activity or relaxation as you want. For travelers who are ready to spend a little more money, I often recommend Australia or Costa Rica, places I love visiting myself. But no matter where I’ve been, it’s the clients who have the last word. The trip has to be right for them. That’s why customer service is a huge selling point for me. I always wear a smile, and my enthusiasm rubs off on my clients. When their itinerary is finished, they’re happy, and I hope they’ll walk back into my office when they’re ready to plan their next trip.
